Happy Thanksgiving!

Submitted by Mike Conaway on November 26, 2008 - 3:17pm.

Suzanne and I would like to wish you a happy Thanksgiving. We hope you find time to spend the holiday with family and enjoy one of my favorite American traditions.

I recently returned home from Washington, D.C., and this Thanksgiving I am thankful for more than being at home with my family.

I am thankful that, even during these challenging times, we still live in the greatest country on earth.

Please join me on this day of thanks in praying for our country and thanking the brave men and women in the military who protect our freedoms.

In Case You Missed It: Mitt Romney On Auto Bailout

Submitted by Mike Conaway on November 24, 2008 - 5:27pm.

I want to share with you an insightful piece Mitt Romney wrote for the New York Times. I share many of his opinions - the so-called "Big Three" automakers need restructuring to once again become competitive in the marketplace, and I do not believe a handout from the American taxpayers will accomplish that.

You can read Mitt Romney's article here. If you would like to express your own opinion, please share your comments below.

Back in Washington

Submitted by Mike Conaway on November 19, 2008 - 10:50am.

I'm back in Washington this week to prepare for the 111th Congress. As you probably heard, the Democrats had planned to pass legislation that would provide a bailout to the automobile industry in the form of new, low-interest loans using the financial stabilization money that was passed in October.

Veterans Day

Submitted by Mike Conaway on November 11, 2008 - 5:54pm.

Today we recognize the countless soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen who have answered the call of duty to defend our nation. America has been blessed to have these brave men and women make sacrifices to serve in the armed forces. Whether they served during war or peacetime, on active duty or in the Reserves, on the home front or abroad, these patriots all deserve our respect and gratitude.

Republicans Remain Strong in Texas

Submitted by Mike Conaway on November 7, 2008 - 5:51pm.

There is an overlooked Republican success story right here in Texas when it comes to this election. The Texas Congressional delegation gained a Republican seat in this election. This is overshadowed by the Democratic gains in Congress, which came in other states.

Election Day

Submitted by Mike Conaway on November 3, 2008 - 5:34pm.

On Election Day, I humbly ask for your vote so that I can continue to represent our conservative values in Washington, D.C.

In this election where Democrats have been making gains across the country and across Texas, it is more important than ever that you take the time out of your busy schedule to vote. You can find resources here on voting locations and times.

Time To Early Vote

Submitted by Campaign Team on October 27, 2008 - 3:46pm.

Early voting totals across Texas show Democrats leading Republicans. We know Texas is a Republican state with many conservative voters. With so much at stake in this election for our country and for Texas, let's urge our Republican friends and family to vote early before Election Day. Our senator, John Cornyn, and the McCain/Palin ticket need our support and our votes. West Texas has lots of good Republicans, and we need to get out the vote to counter the swelling Democratic momentum in Houston, Dallas, and Austin.

Thoughts From The Road

Submitted by Mike Conaway on October 16, 2008 - 1:57pm.

As I’ve been traveling around the district these past few weeks, it’s been great to be back in Texas. At “Ask Mike Anything” stops, I’ve heard from people about the bailout bill, energy concerns, and their thoughts on the direction of the country. I’ve had the opportunity to tour businesses like Trinity Energy and meet with the farmers that are the backbone of our economy.

Making A Tough Decision

Submitted by Mike Conaway on October 3, 2008 - 4:56pm.

Today I voted for the modified rescue bill, and it was the toughest decision I have had to make yet as a legislator. As with the vote on Monday, I thought long and hard about the merits of the bill and could see both sides of the argument. Massive government action does not sound like the best answer to Wall Street's problems. However, America cannot afford inaction. Congress must act quickly to restore confidence in our lending markets, which are like the oil that lubricates our economy and keeps it moving.

The Economic Crisis and Bailout Bill

Submitted by Mike Conaway on October 1, 2008 - 2:49pm.

Monday afternoon I made the difficult decision to vote against the $700 billion bailout of Wall Street. I struggled with the issue all weekend, and I still had doubts walking onto the floor. Ultimately, Congress needs to ensure confidence in America’s lending system, and I thought this bill would not provide the best solution for the American people.
