Last night the Democrats collected enough votes in the House pass legislation that bails out our nation's top three car companies, and that's a shame. A handout from the American taxpayer will only waste money and postpone the difficult decisions the "Big Three" must make. The best option for these companies right now is bankruptcy so that they can reorganize and emerge stronger, healthier businesses.

Over the past weeks I have worked with my Republican colleagues to fight for the American taxpayer, but Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic majority are intent on passing this legislation. Governments all over the world have proven terrible business managers, and we must ensure that the government stops here. Your comments on this site have been encouraging.

That's why I'm asking you to speak up and sign your name on my Web site. We need to make a statement that the government should stay out of managing businesses.

Please send your friends to http://www.mikeconaway.com/auto-bail... and encourage them to join me in fighting this auto bailout. We can't sit back and let Nancy Pelosi erode the foundations of capitalism in our country.

Auto Bailout

Mike, I'm against government control of any business, but how do we square this up with all the unrestricted money given to the banking industry? Did we make a mistake there and do we really risk multiplying our mistakes by giving a much smaller, restricted amount to the auto industry?

In hindsight it looks like the bank money was a huge cash grab by the upper eschelon, and it doesn't seem that any of those funds have been used as intended. If my perspective is skewed please set me straight!

I support you Mike and think you're doing the best job you can, making the best decisions possible given the very difficult circumstances and information available. However we are living in inauspicious times.

My Very Best wishes for a Peaceful and Blessed Christmas for you, Suzanne and your family, Mike!

Auto Bailout

Once again we conservatives are left disgusted with our lack of true conservatives in the Republican congress. The news is that 32 Republicans voted for this bill in the House. AND . . . President Bush is pushing for it. I so appreciate what this man has done with the war on terror. But other than that . . . ? Is he a conservative at all?
At this point, if he were running again, I couldn't vote for him. What has happened to the Republican party?
