This morning, our GOP House leadership delivered a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) asking her to call the House back into emergency session this month to deal with the country's growing energy crisis. The letter said, in part:

With American families and small businesses facing record high gasoline prices, Congress has adjourned to leave Washington for a five-week break. The message this sends to the American people is bad enough; its ramifications, however, are far worse. You have the power to call Congress back into session at any moment to deal with issues of urgent national importance...

Congress should not take the next five weeks off while the American people suffer at the pump. We respectfully request that you schedule a vote on the comprehensive American Energy Act during an emergency legislative session this month.

She and her fellow House Democrats disagreed, and followed their early vote for adjournment by heading out of town and leaving the American people to deal with rising gas prices and energy uncertainty while they enjoyed a relaxing five-week paid vacation.

Unfortunately for Speaker Pelosi, her plan didn't work as well as she had hoped.

Speaker Pelosi responded by sending Capitol Police to remove reporters from the House Gallery -- the latest of multiple Democrat attempts to prevent information about what is happening on Capitol Hill from reaching the American people. When combined with the effort made a few weeks ago to regulate Representatives' use of the Internet to communicate with their constituents, it becomes apparent that the Democratic leadership will do anything it can to keep the American people from knowing what goes on in the People's House.

Further, I went a step above the Speaker in the chain, and wrote a letter to President Bush asking him to use his power, granted under Article II, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution, to compel Congress to immediately return to session so that the bi-partisan, pro-drilling majority can be given the opportunity to vote on legislation that will actually provide relief to the American people during this time of energy crisis. The letter can be seen here.

We are currently facing an energy crisis because of our reliance on foreign crude oil and natural gas, and that dependence is not going away in the near-term.

There is no quick-fix to our ongoing energy crisis. But one thing is certain –- we must increase domestic drilling for crude oil and natural gas. The Democratic majority refuses to focus on the immediate problem at hand, and instead is looking decades into the future for possible solutions and ignoring today’s high gas prices.

By choosing not to drill and not to use American resources now, we are basically accepting $4 gas prices and giving our money to corrupt leaders like Hugo Chavez in exchange for foreign sources of energy. The U.S. has vast resources available both in Alaska and offshore that we could be utilizing in an environmentally-sensitive manner, if only the Democrat leadership would bring legislation authorizing such drilling to the House Floor.

Since Speaker Pelosi has decided to take a paid vacation instead of keeping the House in session to let this vote take place, it is up to the President, if this issue is to be addressed, to covene Congress for the purpose of doing so.

Thanks

Thanks for tighting the pressure on Nancy to open herself
to more drlling after hearing her annouce it on the radio.
The House side has done more in the past years to protect
the business owners and the regular person then the Senate has done, just do not give into a tricks in the bill she
wants to pass and have 3,000 people read the bill to not miss any hidden stipulations. I do think some other form
of renewable energy is good maybe some nuclear or other options but leave finding it to the market place not
useless tax credits to companies who just want the credit
and not work to make it happen. Just look at Dubai and
the incentive they threw out to meet NASA standards while
at the same time that project is being slashed this year,
so while the free market works, we rely on the granny state.
Dang it lets be Americans once more and stop rolling on
our backs and lets stand up and take the country back
and prosper and grow like the good Republicans did in the
grand ole days minus the scandals that cost us the majority.

About Time!

I applaud the Republican stand and say it is about time!! Keep up the good work.

I called John McCains office and told him to go stand with you all!!!!!!! This could of give him the election!!!!!!! Keep this up come Monday and the rest of the week!!!!!!!!!! Well Done

Frankly, this is the first time in a very long time that I have felt the Republican party has fought back and stood up to the liberal Democrats and their socialist message to the American people. Nancy Pelosi is a tyrant -- a thug that would shut up our House members by cutting off their mics, shutting off the lights, and having the Capital police lock the doors. It's outrageous behavior and actually exemplifies the real agenda of the Democrats - - control - - "do what I say and think as I think or I will shut you down either physically or verbally."

I for one am sick of it .... and I thank you for your courage, and American innovation in telling the Dems where they can go. We need FAR more of it.

DRILL NOW AND offshore and in ANWR.....

NO VACATION WITHOUT LOWER GAS PRICES

Congress need to reconvene and solve this problem. I think it horrendous to keep buying oil from terrorist or Communist countries when we can get our own oil. We are letting the terrorists control us. It's time we stop!

Democrats keep telling the nation that we don't have any renewable energy. They are out of touch. Solar power has been out, battery cars are available, ethanol is available. I am sure somewhere there is wind power. Congress has to stop telling lies. We need to have use our own oil, give our OWN people jobs in America. We need more nuclear power. Hey, they seem to love France who has lots of nuclear power. It's fine for them, why not us?

Get real and get this done so Americans can have jobs and enough money to drive there.

Many thanks to you and

Many thanks to you and others who stayed on after the woman we call speaker of house disgraced her position by tuning off lights, made people leave and refused to cancel her 5 week vacation.
She disgraced the country by her actions. I care not what the rest of the world thinks I am only concerned this action will be on liberal TV to make people aware of what is happening in Washington.
I do hope President Bush will recall them all back as this energy problem is huge.
Thank you again, Anne Hanlon

Keep up the good work

Keep up the good work exposing the Democrat/Socialist/Marxist/Communists for what they are. If you scream loud enough and often enough, even their Media Propaganda Ministry will have to report it and the American people will hear you.

The Democrat Socialists are so blindly on the wrong side of this issue, they just might pay a pretty hefty price in November because of it.
